3D digitization of paintings
Why to digitize shape of painting’s surface? Mostly – to have as exact digital copy as possible. But not only archiving is important – the unique shape of the brush strokes, curvature of the plank (if the background is wooden), micro holes, scratches – all this information can be used to verify the authenticity of the painting.
I was involved in the project for Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanow, to develop a system capable of capturing the shape, but also very high quality representation of color of paintings. I was responsible for controlling the PLC used to position 3D scanning head vs the painting as well as algorithms for initial integration of partial measurements into the whole model.
