The topic of tracking the positions (and possibly other parameters) of the company vehicles is very popular right now and there are dozens of firms offering such a service. I had also an episode of working on such such a system.

I lead the team of developers creating (and later extending) the system for monitoring cars (later also personal trackers). The system was developed for one of the bigger security agencies in Poland and it was intended for internal use – with the map and alarm panel displayed in the monitoring room. This system was modular – GPS trackers with 2G connectivity (those were the times…) were sending their positions (and status – alarm, moving, parked, engine on/off etc.) to the central server. The server received these messages and fed them into the database.

The web-based application, running on the computer connected to the set of screens in the monitoring room, was connected to the database and updated the information in real time. Some messages, like alarms triggered warning sound and sent messages to indicated numbers via SMS service.

Exemplary screenshots of the application used for monitoring position, status and alarms.
